We are a professional membership organization committed to improving the care of patients with rheumatic disease and advancing the rheumatology subspecialty. Our mission is to empower rheumatology professionals to excel in their specialty
The Sudanese association of rheumatology was founded in 2011 under the umbrella of the Sudanese Association of physicians, with a very limited number of rheumatologists and with the leadership of Dr Musa Nour (the founder of SAR and the father of rheumatology in Sudan). Few years later, Dr Imtithal Elsalamabi took over the leadership of the SAR and established an amazing scientific and social programe, helped by the unique vice president Dr Alnour Elagib. Dr. Waleid Mawia lead the period from 2018 to 2021, during which SAR became more active and open to the scientific and the social community. This was helped by the new generation of rheumatologists who joined SAR. The Association is now registered under Sudan Doctors Union as a separate professional membership that forms a powerful voice of adult and pediatrics rheumatologists. The last election of SAR was on February 2021, the current president of SAR is Dr. Wafaa Hassan Albashir.
